CHLL was founded in 2011 by a group of parents, with the goal of creating opportunities for children in our diverse community to play baseball and softball with good sportsmanship, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, and sound judgment. The league is all-volunteer run, with 200 or more volunteers each spring and fall season serving as coaches, umpires, scorekeepers, and Board members. From the outset, the Capitol Hill community, including local businesses, have been instrumental to the establishment and continued success of CHLL.
CHLL, now in its 9th year, has grown from 120 players in 2011 to more than 640 baseball and softball players in the spring of 2019. We have an all-time high of 54 teams in the spring, including, for the first time, a Challenger division team for players with special needs.
